Current Lighting executes carve-out in 4 months

Current Lighting successfully executes technical separation of Hubbell’s C&I lighting business.

A total of 1.5 terabytes of data and over 40 integrations were migrated without disruption to day-to-day operations.

DEVON, PA – September 2022 – Leading lighting, controls and software company Current successfully implemented SAP S/4HANA Cloud (RISE) for recently acquired Hubbell commercial and industrial business last summer.

The technical separation of IT systems was executed by cbs Corporate Business Solutions in an aggressive timeline of just 4 months. Further efforts surrounding M&A advisory, interfaces, and the integration of the existing GE Current a Daintree company business were led by Fission Consulting.

“An ERP implementation goes beyond being just an IT project, especially when facing M&A scenarios,” stated Mark LeClair, chief information officer at Current. “This is why it’s important to work with companies who have the right people and tools. The cbs Enterprise Transformer software enabled the successful system to split, and subsequent migration to the RISE cloud.”

“This project had one of the most aggressive timelines I’ve seen,” said Lorenz Praefcke, CEO of cbs Corporate Business Solutions. “I was a bit worried at first, especially considering this was an S/4HANA on-prem to S/4HANA RISE Cloud carve-out. I’m pretty sure this project type had never been done before. At least not in this manner.”

The cbs team was flexible and customer-focused. They were very easy to work with.

Due to the TSA in place between Current and Hubbell, there was a very short runway to carve out the relevant systems from the seller’s IT environment. This left very little margin for error considering all the moving pieces and parties involved in making this happen. Leveraging software with prebuilt, automated capabilities helped meet the deadline.

“It was a pleasure working with a company that understands the relationships between business processes and IT,” noted LeClair. “The cbs team was flexible and customer-focused, working with the various teams on an eye level, ensuring everyone was on track to meet the deadline. They were very easy to work with, and their partnership with Fission helped ensure we were covered end-to-end.”

cbs ET Enterprise Transformer was used as standard software for holistic SAP data transformation. With the help of cbs ET, a minimally disruptive approach was taken, which allowed for a selective extraction of the company in scope with minimal disruption to the seller (Hubbell) and buyer (Current) during the execution of the carve-out.
