Dr. Karsten Kötter never intended to go into consulting. Now, 17 years later, he leads our Cloud Platform business, heads the AI initiative AI:mpact, and manages a team of over 40 people.
So what happened?A good conversation with Stefan Risse. Openness to the unexpected. And the freedom to grow. Karsten quickly realized that consulting can be more than PowerPoint and project plans. It’s a space to shape ideas, take ownership, and help others grow. Karsten brings a physicist’s mindset to leadership: structured, curious, and calm under pressure. But he’s also had to learn to let go. He's coaching others into leadership, building trust, and shaping a team culture based on openness and shared responsibility.
What makes his team stand out?Trust, support, and the space to fail forward. Twice a year, they come together for in-depth "pit stops" not just to reflect on projects, but to connect as people. Outside of work, Karsten recharges in the mountains, paragliding and hiking. For him, it’s not about speed or force, but timing, sensitivity, and making confident decisions when it counts - much like leadership.
